About This Blog

My name is Ken McGowan. This is a personal blog, so you might expect to find posts on any number of topics that pique my personal interest. That might include family, faith, philosophy, film, fiction, foreign language, fitness…

Typewriters. Lots of things.

As it turns out, my blog is mostly about video games. I love games. As much as I also love film and animation and books, games are my favorite way to lose myself in a story, to explore ideas. Great games light my fuse and stoke my fires.

For me, video games are more than idle entertainment. They are among the most impactful means of telling stories. A great game, like any great work of art, expresses something that is at once personal and universal. They convey our culture and values. Games connect people.

Of course, my interest in games isn’t all gravitas and navel-gazing. Video games are a fun, relaxing way to pass the time. We all have our daily burdens. It’s good to have an innocuous “something” that helps us relax and recuperate. It’s vital to our mental and emotional health. For me, games are one such “something”.

The more I engage the gaming community, the more I find, too, that games are a way to connect with people. And that, more than anything, is what this blog is about.

That’s not to say I’ll never write about my kids, Christianity, Kierkegaard, Coraline, kanji, cardio…

…or my beautiful, orange Adler Meteor electric. Isn’t she pretty? :)

In any case, Welcome! I hope you find something here to pique your own interests.
